Hello Nine Mile! Today is June 17th, and it is sunny for the first time in forever.

I am reaching out at midday as much is happening; I want to ensure that you have the most up to date information possible as we move through these last couple of school days.

First, I want to send out a heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2020.  Last Friday, we were fortunate to have been able to celebrate our seniors and their families while also avoiding the frequent storms that have been ever present.  There were several times that my eyeballs leaked seeing the smiling faces and enthusiasm of what was a most unique and individualized ceremony.  Thank you all so much for your support of these fine young people who will undoubtedly make a difference in this goofy world.

As we wind down this last week of school, I am asking that any and all who have benefited from our big yellow food factories and packet deliverers to go out and give an enthusiastic applause and appreciation.  These folks, as well as many that you don’t see, have been on the scene from the very beginning.  I consider all of them heroes for taking care of our kids during an incredibly difficult time.  They all deserve our highest level of gratitude.

Next, we are asking all of our students and families that have checked out chromebooks, textbooks, or any other school materials to please return those items to the school your child attends.  We are asking all families to return these items by Friday June 19th.  If, for some reason, you are unable to get to your studen’ts school, you may tape your students name on the items and return them to one of the buses that delivers lunch through your neighborhood.

Our reopening plans are currently being directed by State Superintendent Reykdal, the Department of Labor and Industries, and the Department of Health.  We have a long way to go before we know exactly what the reopening will look like.  However, the initial guidance was provided from OSPI last week; it is very concerning and complicated.

We are kindly asking all parents or guardians to click on this link and take a few minutes to respond to the short survey about reopening school in the fall.  Your responses and feedback will help guide our reopening taskforce to ensure we are doing everything we can to return our Nine Mile Falls students back to school.   Much like the returning of district materials, we request your response to this survey by the end of the day on Friday June 19th.  Your input will most definitely be calculated and read.  At this time, we have very little control over the decisions that are being made for us.  That being said...we are 9 Mile and we are 9 Mile Proud.  We will get there together
