“Mrs. Pomante was my Mother’s teacher in kindergarten, my uncle’s teacher in kindergarten, and two of my cousins have had her for their first grade teacher. She has definitely made an impact on our family and we love her and her ability to handle so many kids and make each one feel special and to learn all at the same time. She is amazing!” wrote a first grade student at Lake Spokane Elementary School. He nominated Mrs. Julie Pomante for the Kids Newspaper’s Teacher of the Month.
Kids Newspaper honors a teacher each month based on a student’s nomination letter. The newspaper receives hundreds of nominations every month. STCU, Avista, and Luigi’s are proud sponsors who provide recognition gifts to both the student and to the teacher.
Mrs. Pomante was surprised with this honor at a special assembly on Thursday, January 4. Mary Helen Black of Kids Newspaper and Marcee Hartzell of STCU were on hand to present Mrs. Pomante with a “Gold Star” to hang in her classroom, $100 to spend on her classroom, a certificate to Luigi’s, an engraved apple, and other gifts. The student received a “basket of goodies” as well. He also shared with his Principal, Kevin Simpson, that he likes Mrs. Pomante because she has red hair, she plays the guitar, she makes work easy because she explains things so well, and when it is hard, she helps until he understands. “She is loved by everyone.”
