Highly Capable Programs

The Nine Mile Falls School District uses a limited amount of funds provided for by the State to support the needs of our highly capable students in grades K-12. The programs offered are typically implemented before or after school. We have programs at each of the grade bands that focus on math, reading, and creative thinking. These offerings are supervised by district staff as well as community volunteer. Programs vary from year to year based on availability of staff and volunteers.

All students are initially identified through the results of our fall Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment and teacher observations. To be initially considered into the Highly Capable program a student must score in the 90th percentile or higher in MAP reading and/or math. Should a student meet this initial score requirement parents/guardians will be contacted to gain permission for further analysis of the students potential inclusion into the Highly Capable program.

Students who do not meet the initial screening criteria can also be nominated by teachers/parents/guardians/community members for potential inclusion into the Highly Capable program. The nomination process is done through each school.
