• Academic/Scholarship Awards Night

    Lakeside High School honored academics at its annual Academic/Scholarship Awards Reception on Wednesday, May 30.  Principal Brent Osborn welcomed the near capacity crowd and shared what a privilege it was to work every day with such fine young men and women.  This year's Valedictorian and Salutatorian were introduced first, followed by the twelve seniors who earned an Honor Cord to wear at graduation, meaning that they have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher.  
    In addition, 10 students will wear a white cord that signifies Advanced Placement Distinction. 
    Several categories of achievements honored were: Washington State Honors Awards (thirteen students), Washington State Principal's Scholars Program (six students), The Armed Service Cord recipients (six), and the six Spokane Scholars from Lakeside High School.
    The United States Air Force gave awards for Top Math and Top Science seniors; the United States Army gave a male and a female Scholar/Athlete Award;  the United States Marine Corps gave three awards:  Distinguished Athlete, Scholastic Excellence, and the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence,  and the United States Navy gave three awards:  Distinguished Athlete, Inspirational Leadership, and Distinguished Scholar.  
    Each department in the school honored a student from each grade level who showed exceptional abilities in the subject matter. This year four students were given Seals of Biliteracy Medallions for showing mastery of two languages, and the Foreign Exchange students were recognized.   For Athletics, the recipients of the Athena and Valhalla Awards were recognized.   Local scholarship recipients were also announced during the Reception:  The Kaylene Palaniuk Scholarship, the Pacific Eyecare Scholarships, the Nine Mile Booster Club Scholarships, the Nine Mile Community Club Scholarships, the Nine Mile Education Association Scholarships and the Lakeside Principal's Scholarship.
