Spokane Elementary School’s PTN sponsored its Second Annual Fall
Festival and Fifth Annual Chili Cook-off on Friday, November 14. This
year 15 chefs entered their best chili (and one soup) for the chance to
win bragging rights. Five judges narrowed down the field to three top
recipes: First-Megan Corns; Second-Stefani Shilanski; and Third-a fifth
grader in Miss Garvin' class. Many hungry families devoured several
crock pots of chili after only an hour as this competition drew a
constant line of people almost the entire time. Three dollars bought
three bowls of chili with condiments (sour cream, cheese, fritos), a
cookie, and a drink.
the Festival portion of the event, the gym was packed with 16 different
booths and games, with over 200 lanyards sold to eager kids. Pick Me
was a huge hit as kids reached up into a giant nose; on the first try,
each child got some green slime; on the second try, candy! A new game
this year was Lasso the Cow Horns. Other games included a Wheel of Candy, Horse Shoe Toss, Football Toss, Hole-in-One, and a cake walk. One fifth grader stated that his favorite game was the Bull's Eye as he won "two big pieces of candy!" Every half an hour there was also a raffle drawing for a candy bar.
Thanks to all of the awesome volunteers who helped with this night of family fun!
