• Nine Mile Falls Elementary's Open House

Nine Mile Falls Elementary held its annual Open House on Thursday, September 11.  Principal Keith Browning greeted parents in the gym to begin the evening.  He introduced the school staff and shared that the advantage of a small school is the "family feel."  The staff love making this connection with the kids and parents. It is much harder to achieve this bonding in the bigger schools. Mr. Browning discussed the new homework program, Engage NY.  It calls for the students to show their work and their thinking.  It involves application, not just rote memorization/repetition.   He encouraged parents to get involved in the school and recommended the Parent/Teacher Group as an avenue to stay connected to the school.  Parents were then dismissed to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers  During the classroom presentations, teachers shared information about homework, classroom polices, volunteer opportunities, and the daily routine.
