Hello, 9 Mile Proud! Today is July 1st, and this is Brian Talbott...we miss you all so very much.
Although school is out for the summer, we are hard at work configuring our Return and Recovery to School. We exist to educate your children and our students; we know that our students' best learning happens in our schools with our entire staff working together to accomplish this goal.
Your Nine Mile Falls School District Office remains open, and many staff members are working on teams to assist in planning for the 2020/21 school year. I want to thank our staff members who have voluntarily taken part in our task force teams regarding our return in August. These people are taking time away from family and free time to support the return to school.
The district continues to receive directives and mandates from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Today we posted this information to our district Facebook page as well as our school district website at www.9mile.org. We will update these sites as many factors continue to change. Please know that your school district is working hard to roll with the changes and focus on how we can abide by the multitude of rules in order to bring our students back to school in a face-to-face manner.
This week, my colleagues and I sent a letter to the Governor’s Office asking for some relief and flexibility of the rules and regulations that have been established for our reunification to school. We will reach out and do what we can at a local level to provide a more normal educational experience.
The goal of the Nine Mile Falls School District is to return to an in-school, five days a week plan. There are many factors that may prohibit us from doing this, so we are also planning for a modified schedule. It is important to note that at this time no firm decisions have been made; we are working to ensure that school will resume however possible. We miss our students and we want them back.
“Perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness and yet become something beautiful.”
We have gone through some dark days; and yet, we believe that what lies ahead is bright. We wish for you and yours a wonderful holiday weekend filled with family, friends, good food, and a celebration of our amazing United States of America.
Thank you for sticking with us in our 9 Mile Proud attitude.
