form and technique! |
Lakeside
High School’s
Donkey Basketball winning streak came to an end in a closely
fought battle. Sponsored this year by the middle school’s
Washington Drug Free Youth (WDFY), the event pitted the
middle school staff against the high school staff in what
one senior described as a “hilarious” game
of basketball. Proceeds from the evening benefit WDFY.
“Racing” down the court, both teams exchanged baskets all evening.
High point man for the middle school was Steve Ward. “I’ve practiced
all year on a ‘stick donkey’ in the middle school gym,” he
explained. He then added, “You’re only as good as your donkey, though.” Some
of his teammates (Lisa Lauderdale and Lisa Iskason) skipped the practice and
resorted to feeding carrots to the high school’s donkeys! Once again
Lori Pippenger was ruthless in mid-court play for the middle school.
With
just four seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter,
the high school was down by two points. Eventual MVP
for the high school Tim Cruger fell off
his donkey while shooting the ball in an all-out attempt to tie the game...and
made it! However, this valiant effort proved to fall short as Mr. Ward sunk
the first bucket in “sudden death” play. His big sister and Ultimate
Nine Mile Sports Fan, Kerry Jacobson, thoroughly enjoyed the game and asked, “When’s
STATE?” |
