Football:
Two In A Row to State! |
|
This
year’s seniors competed in three successful
varsity football seasons, winning 23 games...the most wins in
Lakeside’s history for a single class. Head Coach Brian
Dunn calls the team’s 9-1 season, NEA Championship, and
participation for the second year in a row in the State Tournament
a “tribute” to this group of hard working gentlemen. “These
student athletes have grown since their freshmen year, both as
players and as individuals. I’m proud of the way they matured,” he
commented. “They’ve done a great job of taking care
of Eagle Football.”
Lakeside
tried something new this year - two platoons. With 92 talented
athletes out for football, this approach was
possible and very effective! Operating with
separate offensive and defensive squads, the boys supported this strategy and
worked as a team should, together. The season began with two shut-outs. This
set the tone for their 9 -1 season, eventual League Championship, and a berth
in the State Tournament. The Eagles finished the season with an impressive
10 - 2 record in the first round of the State tournament; their
season ending loss
came from the 2007 State Champions, Royal. “We all hated to see it come
to an end. What a great ride for a great group of kids,” stated Coach
Dunn. Lakeside football says goodbye to 14 seniors who will be missed.
