Staff Excellence

After 28 years of service to the Nine Mile Falls School District, Mrs. Carol Yearout retired at the end of October from her position as the District’s Payroll Officer. In 1979, Mrs. Yearout took a short term, part time position to assist the Secretary at Nine Mile Falls Elementary School. After that job ended, the District’s bookkeeper fell ill, and Mrs. Yearout filled in, working on accounts payable. She stayed on to help in the Business Office after the bookkeeper’s return. Then in 1992, the bookkeeper simply walked out on the District two weeks before a payroll was due. Mrs. Yearout saw to it that the staff was paid and stayed on in the District’s Business Office as the Payroll Officer.

Mr. Floyd Smith, the District’s Director of Business Operations, explained to the School Board that Mrs. Yearout is extremely detailed in her work. He can count on her to complete all the components of her job accurately, according to changing Retirement and IRS laws. She has worked overtime with him to solve problems, even when ill. Mrs. Yearout has been very loyal to the District and its staff, often going the extra mile for people. At the annual District-wide meeting in September, the entire staff gave her a standing ovation in appreciation when her retirement was announced. Mr. Smith thanked Mrs. Yearout for her dedication to the District and presented her with a “long overdue” Staff Excellence Pin.

Community Partners

School Board Director Mrs. Vicki Daggy acknowledged the service given by “the ladies behind the scenes” of the Lakeside Booster /PTG Club. She stated, “There are many ways to give to your community. A person can give time, money, or services. I would like to acknowledge a group of dedicated people who do it all.” Last year, the Club in general was recognized for all of its efforts to support Lakeside High School students. This year, Mrs. Daggy wanted to honor nine individual ladies, “because without them the Booster Club wouldn’t be able to do its work.”

“Snow White had her ‘Seven Dwarfs’ to support her. The LHS PTA Booster Club has its ‘Nine Ladies.’ These women are behind the scenes of everything the Booster Club does. They work during the summer~planning and organizing events. They work before and after school events~setting up, serving, selling, preparing, and cleaning. They type the notes at the meetings, send the e-mails, and balance the books. They shop for supplies on the weekends, and you don’t often see them doing any of this; it just gets done. If I were to name them, they would be: philanthropy, perseverance, commitment, action, humility, benevolence, selflessness, dutiful, and dedication. (Don’t ask me which one is which!) Some of these fine ladies won’t be with the Booster Club much longer as their “babies” are seniors this year, and they will be passing on the torches. (However, there is still that Senior All-Nighter to plan and carry out!) After the huge success of the Golf Tournament and Silent Auction last month, now is a great time to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. Their countless hours of work were a big part of its success.” Mrs. Daggy thanked the ladies on behalf of the Board of Directors and presented each with a Community Partner Plaque.
