Staff Excellence

Mrs. Debbie Lahue, Director of Learning, was recognized at the December School Board meeting as she has graduated from the National Staff Development Council’s Academy for Staff Developers. This Academy is a prestigious learning institution aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning in all schools. The Academy’s program is a two and one half year learning experience, and Mrs. Lahue was one of 37 December graduates.

Participants in the program are immersed in a model of professional learning that exemplifies standards for staff development. They construct knowledge and develop skills necessary to transform their learning, their work, and their organizations. The National Staff Development Council’s purpose is to ensure that every educator engages in effective professional learning every day so every student achieves. Superintendent Lewis congratulated Mrs. Lahue and awarded her with a Staff Excellence pin.

Lakeside Middle School Health Educator, Mrs. Kathey Weiss was introduced to the Board of Directors by Superintendent Bridget Lewis at the December meeting. Mrs. Weiss is the recipient of the Healthy Living Initiative Award given by Asuris Northwest Health. Mrs. Lewis was contacted about the Award and immediately thought of Mrs. Weiss. To earn this award, Mrs. Weiss wrote a 500 word essay about healthy living skills and teaching students to develop these skills, and Mrs. Lewis wrote a recommendation. Mrs. Weiss was selected from Health Educators across the state for this award which comes with a check for $1,000 to use in her classroom. Mrs. Weiss plans on using the money to purchase additional technology. Superintendent Lewis presented Mrs. Weiss with both the check and a Staff Excellence Pin. The School Board also added their congratulations.
