A Strong Showing at State

On November 3rd in Pasco, Washington, the Lakeside Eagles made yet another strong showing at the Washington State Cross Country Meet. Both the Boys’ and the Girls’ teams ran exceptionally well, earning LHS many honors and recognitions. These come on the heels of an undefeated league season for both teams, as well as District and Regional titles for both teams. In addition to sweeping both our League and Region, the Eagle runners also made fantastic showings at a number of Invitational meets across the Northwest this fall.

The Girls’ team took Fifth in 1A State race, tying the best team finish by a Lakeside Girls’ team which was first accomplished last year. The girls worked very hard all season and finished as a much stronger and much closer team than they were at the beginning of the season.

With a Second place finish in State this year, the Boys’ team fell just short of repeating as State Champions by only four points. Two seniors ran very strong races, earning 3rd and 4th place individual medals. After a third place ranking all season, the Second Place trophy was quite an accomplishment.

This year’s cross country teams had the highest number of runners in Lakeside’s history. On senior, who ran cross country for the first time this fall and earned the varsity letter said, “One cannot even imagine the tremendous amount fun and genuine satisfaction one gets through training and then racing cross country unless they stick with it for a season. I wish I would have done it in my pervious years here.” Head Coach Steve Olson added, “Some runners turn out for cross country to help them get in their absolute best condition for their other winter and/or spring sports, but then soon find that cross country goes beyond other sports or games; they come back their remaining years wanting to contribute to the strong cross country teams Lakeside has. Some in time even find it a lifestyle.”
