Superintendent's Message June 2007

As the final school bell of the school year rang on Tuesday it was the final school bell for four of our long time staff members. Collectively they represent three-quarters of a century, 75 years, of investment into the Nine Mile Community.

Barb Roma is retiring after 14 years as counselor at Lakeside High School. Her positive impact on our students will be missed.

Shirley Eide is retiring after 17 years of service to the students of this district. Mrs. Eide served as a teacher of sixth grade students beginning in February 1990; working at Nine Mile Elementary School and Lakeside Middle School.

Scott Jones leaves education after 19 years. For 17 of those years, he served Lakeside High School as a Business Education teacher and Assistant Principal. He leaves behind a legacy of success both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.

Karen Beratto came to the Nine Mile Falls School District in 1980 as an instructional aide working with special education students. In 1986 she began work as a certified teacher, working with the same student population. She finished her career with six years teaching first and second grade students at Nine Mile Elementary School.

Together these four fine professional educators have impacted thousands of students. They will each be missed for the unique gifts that, individually and collectively, they bring to our schools.

This is the last letter I will write you as your superintendent. I have been honored to serve this school community. Nine Mile is a wonderful community, and my family and I will miss living and serving here. The kids of this community are so very fortunate to have a team of very high quality teachers and staff who are invested in their success. I encourage you to continue to support the quality work of the teachers, staff, and principals who support the students of Nine Mile Falls.
