Dear
Community,
The
2006-2007 school year was filled with new challenges
and great successes. We continued to implement many of
the exciting and purposeful changes we have made at Lakeside
Middle School. As a staff we are proud of the academic
and co-curricular success our students experienced throughout
the year.
In
late September through early October, our students began
collecting pledges for our 8th Annual Fund Run. Again,
our students collected over $15,000 in pledges. All money
collected from the Fund Run is used to support all co-curricular
activities at Lakeside Middle School. I would like to
thank all of the students and community members who helped
support us during this important fund-raiser.
Throughout
the school year our students successfully competed in
academic and athletic competitions. Over two-thirds of
our seventh and eighth graders were involved in athletics.
The Lakeside Middle School band/music program had another
successful year and continued to provide opportunities
for students to perform in front of diverse audiences.
In June, all eighth grade students were involved in a “We
the People” showcase where they were judged on
their expertise and knowledge of different constitutional
issues.
 |
In
February we held an Evening of Excellence assembly
to formally recognize all of our honor roll students.
Over 150 students were recognized for their outstanding
academic accomplishments.
Again,
during this past school year, we continued our
effort to recognize students for displaying the
characteristics of the Eagle Pride Word of the
Month. Hundreds of our students who displayed
the Word of the Month were recognized throughout
the year with a hall party pass that allowed
them to go to the front
|
of the
lunch line and to receive free ice cream. Along with
the hall parties, each grade level recognized students
through their own Eagle Pride assemblies or end of the
year celebrations. I would also like to recognize and
thank all of our students and staff who participated
in helping provide for an environment that will allow
the “The Lakeside Way” to become the touchstone
of our school – they have truly made a difference.
Finally,
the staff at Lakeside Middle School would like to thank
all of you for another great year and invite you to come
to Lakeside Middle School and be a part of the daily
education of our students. We are looking forward to
the year ahead of us and would like you to be a part
of our successes and celebrations.

School Improvement Plan
During
the last few school years, the staff at Lakeside Middle School
has been working to continue their own professional
development in order to positively impact student learning. We
have utilized our professional development days along with Thursday
collaboration time to help us achieve our goals of improving teaching
and learning. We are proud of the progress we have made and will
continue to work diligently to provide the best education we can
to all of our students.
 |
During
the past year the staff at Lakeside Middle School embraced “The
Lakeside Way” as a touchstone for what we believe helps
a person develop character. “The Lakeside Way” is
characterized by three main goals and a mission statement.
• Working Hard – Striving for excellence.
• Doing the Right Thing – Striving for ethical behavior.
• Being Yourself – Following your conscience instead of the crowd
and striving to develop, not waste, your full potential for excellence and ethics.
At Lakeside Middle School we strive to improve the well-being of ourselves and
those around us. |
The
staff members that have been involved in our Meaningful Learning
Team over the past year have shown a tremendous amount of dedication
to student character
development. As a group, the Meaningful Learning Team created “The Lakeside
Way” in order to help students develop a stronger understanding of
what a person of character is. We are excited about the changes we have made
for next
year and believe we will create a very educational, motivating, and safe
environment for the students of Lakeside Middle School.
Along
with the changes that have been made in our character education
program, the staff has also maintained a professional focus on
our three building
goals. The goals call for improving teaching and learning in order to improve
reading,
math, and student motivation. Collaboration time throughout the year was
dedicated to making progress toward meeting the goals.
The
reading team has identified specific goals that need to be achieved
based on current student performance. Through the identification of these
goals,
they have developed a staff tool kit to help all teachers become better
teachers of
reading. They will continue to review the data we receive from classroom,
district, and state assessments to continually reevaluate and readjust
their goals. Our
students in all three grades performed better than the state average
on the 2006 reading WASL.
Within
the mathematics program, the teachers at Lakeside Middle School
continue to create backwards design units to maintain close alignment
with the state
standards. The backwards design process is being used to align all subject
areas. Through
this process the teacher identifies the state standard they want to address,
followed by how they will assess the student learning, and finally creating
lessons to help the student learn and understand the state standards.
The 2006 WASL scores
demonstrated that the connected math program is continuing to help students
increase their understanding in mathematics. As with reading, our students
in all three
grades performed better than the state average in math.
Finally,
the staff at Lakeside Middle School would like to thank all of
the parents and volunteers for their dedication to helping us
make
Lakeside
Middle
School
a better place for kids.
